The greatest challenge in the recovery of child/human trafficking survivors are the past traumatic memories that constantly surface in their lives. The survivors call them “flashbacks”.
Lately, I’ve noticed there are many of us experiencing “flashbacks” or being forced to deal with past family issues and trauma surfacing in our lives. And some of these issues have even caused separation in families and communities, marriages to fail and loss of hope.
Many of us are repeatedly faced with these issues rising again in our lives because there is still a lesson to be learned. The only way to no longer feel the pain or suffering from memory trauma or past experiences is to learn from it. Deal with the issue and pain that you feel or it will come back into your life until you do learn from it. Find the lesson in the pain and appreciate the memory of the experience.
In order to understand any feeling or emotion one is experiencing is to deal with the emotion rather than trying to push it away or bury it. The reason many people suffer with anxiety and depression is because there are deep rooted issues that need to be faced and dealt with so one can learn and can move on from the issues.
If life was always filled with rainbows and unicorns we would never learn anything. We’d be like walking zombies but better looking. The only way to learn anything is when it makes an impact in our lives. Unfortunately, some of those impacts contain pain or hurt but are only felt and experienced so we may become wiser and stronger!
So the next time you have pain staring you in the face, make sure to welcome it with open arms but more importantly learn from it so it will never have to surface again.
